We at Ponderosa encourage our student body to engage in the clubs listed below.
Chess is used to develop strategic and critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and competitive maturity. The Ponderosa Chess Club meets each Wednesday and is open to Ponderosa Elementary School students in grades 3-5. This is an excellent way for beginners to learn how to play chess while providing experienced players with the opportunity to participate in both recreational and competitive matches. Knowledge of chess is not required. Students learn to play and enjoy chess while experiencing healthy competition and team spirit.

Battle of the Books (B.O.B) is a voluntary reading program for students in grades 3-5. Students read books and usually compete in groups to demonstrate their abilities by answering questions to test their knowledge of the books they have read. The competition will be in a quiz-bowl type format. The purpose is to encourage students to read good books and have fun while competing with other students. View the most current book list by clicking on the B.O.B icon above.
